South of Banff

The Banff Mountain Film Festival celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2010, and now brings its world tour to the Boulder Theater tonight and tomorrow at 7 p.m. ($19.50 per day, tickets at www.bouldertheater.com), then to Denver's Paramount Theatre March 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. ($15 per day, tickets at www.denverparamount.com).

"Our week-long festival in Banff was incredible this year, and one of the great benefits of the tour is that it gives these filmmakers a chance to have their work seen all over the world, not just in Banff," says Banff Centre spokeswoman Jill Sawyer. "We had a tremendous variety of films this year, from the adventure sports films that are always the hits of the festival to some really wide-ranging cultural films, including several wonderful films about Tibet."

The tour will bounce around Colorado all month, with upcoming dates in Colorado Springs, Aspen, Crested Butte and Durango. The full list of films for the local tour stops hadn't been announced as of this writing, but watch for the festival's Grand Prize winner Mi Chacra, a documentary about a porter on the Inca Trail in the Andes, and A Life Ascending, a profile of Canadian mountaineering guide Ruedi Beglinger that won Best Film on Mountain Culture.
Tue., March 1, 7 p.m.; Wed., March 2, 7 p.m., 2011
