3014 is a bar that doesn't need a DJ -- it has a jukebox

"We've got a jukebox here, and we're just kind of keeping it more of a neighborhood bar," says David Senger, the owner of 3014, which last year took over the space at 3014 East Colfax Avenue previously occupied by Senger's on the Fax. He recently laid off the guys who'd been running the Solution hip-hop night at the venue for four months, and says he won't have DJs in there ever again. That jukebox will let people play whatever they want; some of those DJs didn't take requests.

3014 will soon be offering tacos, not DJ nights.

"If you're a club, be a club," Senger pronounces. "As far as a bar goes, it doesn't justify having DJs in here. Especially on Colfax -- it's so diverse. A lot of people want to listen to the Grateful Dead. Some people want Beck. You've got to have a little bit of everything for everybody."

So instead of offering DJs, Senger is focusing on making his place an upscale neighborhood sports bar; he's also planning to put an authentic taco shop, Odelay Tacos, inside the space. (Think Atomic Cowboy and Fat Sully's pizza inside that bar, he says.) Senger is shooting to have Odelay installed by April 1, when he'll start opening 3014 at 11 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the taco shop will serve until 4 a.m.; the menu will include el pastor, chicken, beef and fish tacos; burritos; slow-roasted pork green chile; and a few vegetarian options. And 3014's kitchen will continue to serve wings, burgers and tater tots.

The taco shop isn't the only change Senger is making. He's repainting the place, redoing the flooring and adding new art. And next year, he plans to totally transform the rooftop patio, adding trees and fire pits.

Club scout: The former Rooster's Roadhouse at 8980 Federal Boulevard is now Senorita Frogs. Owner Raul Blanco says the place will not only serve authentic Mexican food, but will host DJs spinning all kinds of music Wednesdays through Saturdays, as well as offer karaoke on Sundays. As for the original home of Rooster's spot -- 4381 West 120th Avenue in Broomfield -- it's now Old Man, another tavern in the Little Pub Company chain.

Swallows, the gay bar that opened a year ago in the former Kiva/Tosh's Hacienda spot, at 3090 Downing Street, has gone dark. So on Sunday, March 6, the Sunday-night Atomic Drag Show will move to Tracks (3500 Walnut Street), which is owned by the same parent company. 3WayFridays and Tuesday-night Beer Gaymes will also transfer to Tracks.

On Tuesday, March 8, three Lotus Concepts clubs are throwing Mardi Gras parties. Suite Two Hundred (1427 Larimer Street) will host a go-go dance-off; prizes include $200 in cash, a trip for two to Las Vegas, and a chance to dance at the grand opening of Chloe, Lotus's new venture slated to open in May in the former Ruth's Chris location (1445 Market Street). And at 24K and the Oak Tavern (both located at 1416 Market Street), the festivities will feature stilt-walkers, flame-throwers and music by Valedictorian.
