Mountain Position in the Mountains

The fourth annual Telluride Yoga Festival, which takes place in July, has grown into one the world’s premiere yoga retreats. So this, year, they’ve added a Winter Retreat weekend, running today through Sunday, to help harness all that awesome mountain karma and add some meditation to the madness of Spring Break.

“The first thing anyone notices when they come to Telluride is the magical mountain energy,” says festival director Aubrey Hackman, a certified Jivamukti instructor who will present gentle Vinyasa flow sessions to open and close the Winter Retreat. “We wanted to tie the ancient practice of yoga into an incredible ski retreat weekend, combining all the winter activities that the Telluride region has to offer with a sublime mountain experience that will leave you feeling extremely rejuvenated and ready for spring.”

Participants can opt for a full-day schedule including sessions at the Peaks Resort Hotel & Spa, 136 Country Club Drive, with Ashtanga instructor Victoria Hoffman and special guest David Hollander (a Mysore-style Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher from New York’s Sun & Moon Arts studio). Or hit the slopes all day before joining Iyengar instructor Annie Clark for Restorative Yoga for Skiers (Friday, 4:30 p.m.) and Restorative Yoga for Stability (Saturday, 4:30 p.m.).
