Sturm und Drag

Drag queen Joel Valenzuela, aka Angelina Essex, came out of retirement two years ago at the request of friend (and RuPaul's Drag Race participant) Nina Flowers to perform in Flowers’s new monthly show, Drama Drag, at Tracks Nightclub, 3500 Walnut Street. Now Valenzuela is once again stepping out of the spotlight — but not without a final bang: The madam of many faces will perform one last time tonight at Drama Drag, in celebration of the night’s two-year anniversary.

Known for his multiple drag personalities and mostly naked, acrobatic performing style, Valenzuela says he’s stepping away from the sell-out show in order to focus on other projects. “I’m running for a pageant in October, so I wanted to take a break from being out all of the time before I actually had to be out all the time,” he jokes. “Plus, doing drag is very expensive.” The show, which celebrates Valenzuela’s work and features guest queen and RuPaul superstar Shangela, starts at 9 p.m.; tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.tracksdenver.com or by calling 303-853-7326.
