Board Of Art

As public schools shutter the doors of art classrooms, students have fewer means of showcasing their creativity in a meaningful way. It’s this situation that led to the creation of Art Builds Communities, a youth-outreach program that provides disadvantaged kids with art workshops and classes. It’s also what spawned Boards for Kids, an artist skate-deck show and fundraiser with more than forty contributors.

“I wanted to do a show to give back to the community,” says organizer Emily Francis, the head of All or Nothing Productions. “This show can help give exposure and money to a great cause.” That exposure will come from local and national artists who design skate-board art, including Justin Kamerer, Paul Romano, Lindsey Kuhn and other notables. After the art show, the bands Trees, Il Cattivo, Frontside Five, Loaded 45 and Tin Horn Prayer will take the stage.

Boards for Kids kicks off tonight at 6 p.m. at 3 Kings Tavern, 60 South Broadway. The event is 21-and-over; admission is $6. If you’re interested in buying a deck, they’ll be sold for $100 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Art Builds Communities. For more information, visit www.3kingstavern.com.
