Zen and Now

The annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert is a prime example of the kind of thing that can happen when a community of people collaborate toward a greater end. And in a sort of concentric-circle ripple effect, that’s the idea behind tonight’s Zenlightenment extravaganza, part of a series of fundraisers for the Zenith art installation planned for this year’s Burning Man.

Timonkey and Scuzzy will provide the tunes along with local guests Miraja, Souljorn and Kai; there will also be fire spinners, dancers, living painting and special opening and closing ceremonies with suspension performances by Zenith’s Smallfry.

The evening is also an attempt to build the Burning Man community here in Colorado; as such, the Zenith group is providing a Giving Tree, where people can share and help one another. If you have a project you’d like help with, you can leave contact info and details on one of the tree’s leaves, which other community members can take if they think they can help.

Zenlightenment starts at 9 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre, 4335 West 44th Avenue; admission is $10. Learn more at www.zenithproject.com.
