Tune In, Turn On, Share the Link

The TED Talks date back to the 1984 international Technology, Entertainment, Design conference; these days they're viral-media gold, thanks to the widespread sharing of the brief "ideas worth spreading" lectures online, and they're also moving from global to local appeal with independently organized events like today's TEDxMileHigh.

"When TED started to put the talks on the Internet in 2007, it was revolutionary," says local organizer Jeremy Duhon. "Suddenly the audience for these great ideas and passionate speakers just blew up exponentially. Now the same format is giving us a chance to celebrate Colorado and some of the great ideas, great innovators and great leaders we have here. Our hope is to encourage the audience and the community to continue to be inspired in their own citizenship."

Alex Bogusky (a partner in Boulder-based ad agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky and founder of the FearLess Revolution) is the event's emcee, and the dozen featured speakers include Engineers Without Borders president Bernard Amadei, SAME Cafe co-founder Libby Burky, and Patagonia CEO Casey Sheahan.

The lectures begin at 3 p.m. at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House; tickets start at $39.50 and are available at www.tedxmilehigh.com. Can't make it? Look for the lectures on the website – and in the Facebook feeds of everyone you know – after the event.
