More About

As a child, producer and multi-instrumentalist Daedelus (aka Alfred Weisberg-Roberts) wanted to be an inventor — hence the nod to the ancient Greek inventor who created the labyrinth on Crete. (Daedelus's moniker was also partially inspired by the character Stephen Dedalus in James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man). This Daedelus is formally trained in double bass and bass clarinet. He studied jazz at the University of Southern California, but intelligent electronica is where he eventually landed, blending underground hip-hop and samples from the 1930s and '40s into his freewheeling, fractured, techno-leaning downtempo sets. His lush sound carries a touch of innocence and whimsy, with clockwork noises and antique tones that fit perfectly with his Victorian-era facial hair, top hats and cravats. Catch this steampunk godfather when he spins with Tokimonsta and Shlohmo at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom on Wednesday, April 13.
