The liberal and the conservative. The vegetarian and the carnivore. The long-haired hippie and the, uh, long-haired non-hippie: These are two men destined to do battle, and though one of the few things they have in common is their shared love of weed, they will do battle about that, too.

“My objective will be to crush him with a bunch of material he hasn’t seen before, which will be better than crushing him with a bunch of jokes he knows he’s going to get crushed with,” boasts Chuck Roy, the conservative half of the local comedic nemeses who will meet again at tonight’s 420 Showdown: Roy Vs. Hippieman. During the epic contest, emceed by comic Eugene Kenny, Roy and John “Hippieman” Novosad will roast each other with individual sets and then go head-to-head on a variety of topics, including “balancing the budget,” “weed experiences” and one determined by the audience, to test their quick wits. The adversaries are preparing for anything and everything. “I’ll write, write, write,” Novosad retorts. “I’m going to hit him over the head with dick and weed jokes the likes of which he’s never seen, and I may even write a special dick-and-weed joke all rolled into one.

“Even though I’m a hippie,” he adds, “I do my homework.”
