Diaper Duty

Julie Ekstrom, founder and owner of Golden-based cloth-diaper company Kanga Care, knows that cloth diapers will probably never beat disposables when it comes to market share. “But more people need to know they’re not your traditional pins and pre-folds and plastic pants,” she says. “This isn’t just a backwoods choice or a niche parent decision anymore. The industry is growing by leaps and bounds, and more parents should know that it’s such an easy option.”

To spread that message, in conjunction with more than 400 events worldwide (including others in the Denver area), Kanga Care is teaming up with the Giggling Green Bean and Sweet Beginnings to host an official location for The Great Cloth Diaper Change, a Guinness World Records attempt for the most cloth diapers changed simultaneously. “At 10:30 a.m. on the button,” Ekstrom explains, “everybody will change their diaper, and then it’s pretty much done.”

According to Guinness regulations, each baby or toddler must be accompanied by a separate adult, be less than 39 inches tall, and be changed into a brand-name cloth diaper. The first 25 people in line will receive a gift bag worth nearly $300, and $1 raffle tickets could score parents more than $1,000 in baby gear.

The Kanga Care-sponsored record attempt is set to happen at the Scheitler Recreation Center in Berkeley Park, 5031 West 46th Avenue. Free registration is required. Learn more about all Colorado events at http://greatclothdiaperchangedenver.eventbrite.com.
