Girls Gone Jewish

Just in time for Passover, Susannah Perlman is bringing her troupe of Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad back to Denver for a night of Judaic-themed comedy, music and burlesque. Because of the alignment with the holiday, Perlman promises “a whole burning bush, Moses thing” which entails a “’Go Down Moses,’ ‘Fire Burning,’ by Sean Kingston, and ‘Disco Inferno’ mash-up with pyrotechnics.”

Beyond the anticipation of indoor fireworks, Perlman’s performance will offer the same intelligent, irreverent Jewish humor it has since she founded the variety show in 2003. “I book women who go against the grain of what people think the stereotypical Jewish woman is — you know, materialistic, vapid,” explains Perlman. “I book women with a depth to what they’re saying; they have a little bit more of an edge to them.” Filling the bill this time are comedians Cynthia Levin and Sara Barron and singer-songwriter Naomi Less. With Perlman as hostess, the evening promises to be filled with elaborate costumes, a Lady Gaga “Mah Jongg Face” parody, and the first-ever Israeli dance striptease. “It’s not on YouTube, so I know it doesn’t exist,” laughs Perlman.

Come see these chosen ladies perform tonight at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street. Shows are at 7 and 9 p.m., and tickets are $25. For more information, call 303-293-0075 or visit www.lannies.com.
