“I wanted to write a book about globalization,” says Lindsay. “I was taken with air travel because it’s the physical side of it.” So taken, in fact, that he’s stretched the idea to its logical extreme, describing a future where cities will be built around airports instead of away from them, reasoning that economic growth will develop based on the businesses attracted by a major airport. Aerotropolis takes the long view, looking at how airports can and will affect global economics, international relations, even sociological change.
