Mesita

Here's to Nowhere
Self-released

James Cooley is only in his early twenties, and he already has a few hundred songs under his belt. More impressive, Cooley — perhaps better known by the Mesita moniker — plays every instrument on his recordings, which he also engineers and produces himself. Since 2008, the Littleton native has released two EPs and two full-lengths, including his latest effort, Here's to Nowhere. Beyond being wildly prolific, the guy releases some amazing music. Nowhere is one of those rare treats where pretty much every track is a keeper; it brims with a buoyant enthusiasm not found much these days. The album's vivid, layered opener, "A Million Shades of Sky," perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the album, which is carried by Cooley's Bon Iver-like falsetto. Without question, Mesita is one of the best things to come out of these parts in the last few years.
