Given that it sounds like something out of a nightmarish fever-hallucination (in the best possible sense), Delirium: A Circus of the Senses has a pretty apt name: Its pretty much a four-hour non-stop thrill ride, says organizer Jimmy Stewart (yes, thats his real name). Everywhere you look, there will be something happening.
The bill includes aerialists, drag acts, erotica photography, juggling, sword-swallowing, glass-eating, go-go dancers, pole dancers, burlesque dancers, a Bette Midler impersonator and at least one fetish act. Shes planning on doing light bondage, Stewart cautions. Plus, shes got a couple of surprises she wont tell me about, which kind of worries me.
One thing Stewart is not worried about, though, is the money: All of it goes to benefit the Metro CareRing, which helps families in need with food, utility assistance and other services. Why? Its an odd story, notes Stewart, who planned the whole shebang from the ground up but it boils down to something pretty simple: My mother always taught me to give back.
The acid carousel fires up tonight at 7 p.m. at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue, and costs a mere $10 in advance ($15 day of show). For tickets or more information, visit www.deliriumshow.com.
