When people classify the music that Cannons is making, they have a tendency to be grossly inaccurate. Boasting members from some of Denver's most established metal acts, the band often gets a metal designation assigned to it. A closer listen, however, makes it apparent that this is far from an apt description. With mathy time signatures and impressive dexterity, the group possesses the skill and spirit shown by many metal heavyweights, but the music played here borrows more from post-hardcore acts like Fugazi, implementing similar syncopation, dissonant chords and defiant attitude. Whether post-hardcore or pre-something else, Cannons has the advantage of borrowing from its members' diverse backgrounds and influences in creating music that is challenging, engaging and, while not metal, heavy as fuck.
