The Few, the Proud

PrideFest aims to offer something for everyone. From the kids’ petting zoo and face-painting opportunities to performances by RuPaul-sanctioned drag queens, one and all are invited to participate in the annual downtown celebration of diversity. But the 2011 edition of PrideFest is dedicated to the hard work of those in the armed forces.

“We’re excited that the theme of this year’s event, ‘These Colors Don’t Run,’ allows us to honor all LGBT servicemen and women,” says Drew Wilson, spokesman for the Center and GLBT Colorado.

Saturday’s festivities will emphasize a family-friendly atmosphere, with games and entertainment for all ages, while Sunday’s Pride parade and performances by Thelma Houston and NYC DJ/party boy Cazwell will cater to more adult eyes. There are Latin and country music stages, along with the canine-dedicated Pooch Pavilion, plus plenty of spots to get your food and drink on. All veterans and active-duty service members are invited to walk in the parade, which begins at Cheesman Park at 9:30 a.m.

PrideFest goes down at Civic Center Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday; admission is free. For more information, visit www.glbtcolorado.org or call 303-733-7743.
