For me, this exhibition really celebrates photographys ability to be this and that, says Thompson. There are works that are made from four framed photographs violently collided together; from photo-paper that has been painted with ink and sewn; from a photograph that has been placed behind layers of excavated drywall. The show is very much about the physicality of photography and the photo-graph itself.
Colby Bird, Liz Deschenes, Roe Ethridge, Mario Garcia Torres and Mark Wyse are but a few of the many international artists whose works have been included. See for yourself at a reception tonight at the AAM, 590 North Mill Street in Aspen, from 6 to 8 p.m. For additional details, call 970-925-8050 or go to www.aspenartmuseum.org. The show stays up through July 17.
