Dancing, Swedish folk music, Vikings and traditional Scandinavian cuisine are just a few of the things you’ll find at the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival this weekend in Estes Park. The massive, two-day event is filled with folk activities ranging from the display of Viking tools to dancing around the traditional maypole, generally seen as a gathering spot for European festivals. But one of the biggest appeals is the food, says festival director Cathy Allen. “There are so many different and new things to try.” There will also be a market-place filled with handcrafted goods and workshops to teach people how to make them on their own. “It’s a place for the Scandinavian community to come together to celebrate and share their heritage and culture with each other and the community at large,” Allen says.
