Of Ink and Art

Adam Rose and his tattoo shop, Fallen Owl Tattoo in Lakewood, have been involved with several Colorado charities over the years — and 2011 is no different. The guys and gals at Fallen Owl are teaming up with nine other tattoos shops around the metro area to raise money for Youth on Record, a charity created by Flobots.org that gives underprivileged and at-risk youth a chance to express themselves through music.

At Tattooers on Deck, the artists will auction off 28 custom-painted skateboard decks, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Youth on Record. “We do a charity event every year,” Rose says. “This year I had a client that gave me bunch of skateboard decks to paint, and I figured if I was going to do this, I might as well do it for a good cause. Tattoo shops have a lot of bad stigmas...and we want to show the community we are professional artists giving back to our roots.”

The event will be held at doughnut mecca the Hole, at 3877 Tennyson Street, from 6 to 10 p.m.; bids on the decks will start at $50. Food and drinks will be provided, with a full bar on site. For more information, go to www.fallenowltattoo.com.
Fri., July 1, 6-10 p.m., 2011
