The Denver Outlaws lacrosse team started its 2011 season with a bang, going undefeated in its first handful of games, and will clash with rivals the Boston Cannons tonight at 7 p.m. before the big fireworks show at Invesco Field at Mile High.
"We like to say there will be fireworks on and above the field at Invesco," says Outlaws spokesman Trent Nielsen. "Boston's a big rival for us they're pretty much the Beast of the East and we just beat them a few weeks ago, so I know they'll be out for redemption. If people haven't been out to see an Outlaws game yet or haven't been in a while, this is also a big chance to see our two hottest new players in action: We picked up Billy Bitter in the NCAA draft and recently traded for Peet Poillon, and together they've transformed our squad."
Nielsen's hoping for even bigger bragging rights after tonight's game: "Our Independence Day celebration is the event that typically breaks the Major League Lacrosse attendance record every year. Last year we had about 24,000 people in a torrential downpour. This year we're hoping for as many as 35,000 fans; it's a great way to reward our fans and introduce some new ones to the sport."
