Author and burlesque star Vivienne VaVoom, aka Michelle Baldwin, has been to a lot of singles events, but what makes the Stag Social Club different from the rest is its laid-back attitude. The monthly event, hosted by the Denver Public Librarys Fresh City Life program, offers a comfortable, relaxed setting for mingling and meeting new, intelligent people.
Its through the library, so were definitely marketing it to folks who are into books and are into thinking and are into new ideas, explains VaVoom. Its sort of all walks of life; really interesting people have been attending. As hostess, VaVoom will be on hand to introduce people, lead them through icebreaker games and make sure the night runs smoothly. This month, Stag is also bringing in a magician to do some close-up magic; past months have included events like wine and chocolate tastings. The goal is to help broaden horizons even in a town where you may feel like you know everyone.
Denver is funny, says VaVoom. Ive lived here my whole life, and it definitely sometimes feels like a cowtown, and youre, you know, three degrees of separation from pretty much everyone you meet. But really its a big city, and I think at every event, Ive met someone who had no connection to me that I found really interesting.
The Stag Social Club meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight and the third Friday of every month at Forest Room 5, 2532 15th Street. Registration is encouraged online at http://denverlibrary.org/content/stag-social-club or by phone at 720-865-1206.
