Be afraid. Be very afraid. Tonight marks the start of DeMented. DeRanged. DeCeptive. De Palma-+, the Denver Film Society's month-long series celebrating the work of iconoclastic director Brian De Palma. Every Tuesday night in August, the DFS will screen a different picture by the auteur, who made a name for himself directing gritty crime films and intense psychological thrillers in the '70s and '80s.
"Among directors, Brian De Palma's work is often misunderstood," says DFS programming manager Keith Garcia, "Some view him as a copycat of Hitchcock. Although his themes and ideas are sometimes inspired by Hitchcock, De Palma's films are not copies of Hitchcock's films, but responses to them."
"All of these films are being presented in 35 millimeter, which is something of a rarity these days," Garcia notes. The showings are at 7:30 and 10 p.m. at the Denver FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.denverfilm.org.
Tuesdays, 7:30 & 10 p.m. Starts: Aug. 2. Continues through Aug. 30, 2011
