In the six years since its debut, the Denver Modernism Show has not only grown in scope, but it's also become a favorite for mid-mod lovers across the nation. Why? Well, it's got a good spirit and lots of vintage and contemporary modern design items to drool over. But the real secret? Bargains. It has a rep for great deals that makes it one of the most enjoyable modernism shows anywhere.

"This year, we'll have more booths with vintage fashion, coats and jewelry, and we'll also have more contemporary modern designs and studio pieces on display that are mostly local, from Colorado and New Mexico," says show promoter Dana Cain. "After all, the whole point of modernist design, which is already so futuristic, is the basic notion that it would support the idea of designers continuing to come out with new modern pieces." And she promises affordable shopping for all: "Everyone who goes knows they can leave with some cool little treasure. You can spend $5 or $5,000 here; nobody has to feel cheap. Some of the other modernism shows I've been to are like walking into a museum."

Along with the exhibitors and live entertainment, Modernism Show favorites, including an annual juried art show (judged by Westword's Michael Paglia and Robert Delaney), the authentic Tiki Lounge, the Friday-night Miss Modernism pageant and Sunday's vintage car show, will all be back; on Saturday at 2 p.m., the Denver Vintage Society will present a fashion show titled Runway Retrospective: Three Decades of Iconic Fashion, at 2 p.m. Visit the Denver Modernism Show preview party tonight from 7 to 10 p.m.; come back to browse and shop from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow or 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the National Western Complex Expo Hall, I-70 and Brighton Boulevard. Admission is $20 tonight (or $40 VIP, which includes a gala pre-show from 5 to 7 p.m.) or $8 daily through the weekend (children ages twelve and under will be admitted free).
