More About

"We'd just like to have a good time with our neighbors in this next step in food justice in Denver," says director of operations Adam Brock. The Hydrofarm, as it is called, is a state-of-the-art geothermal heating system that GrowHaus will use to grow lettuce and other fresh, leafy greens for distribution to people living in the neighborhood. The nonprofit hopes to grow 1,800 heads of lettuce in the space, which doesn't use soil, but specially designed plastic bags connected to a watering system. The first harvest is scheduled for this fall.

Former Denver Bronco and current ESPN talking head Mark Schlereth will make an appearance, as will coffee giant Maxwell House, which gave GrowHaus $50,000 for renovations via a contest. The free party starts at noon at 4751 York Street; for more information, go to www.thegrowhaus.com or call 720-515-4751.+
