It's been tough to avoid the sounds of the Weepies since the indie-pop duo signed with Nettwerk Records in 2005. In the past six years, the outfit's folky song structures, stark instrumentation and poppy hooks have earned soundtrack spots in television shows and feature films alike. The mass exposure makes sense: Both Steve Tannen and Deb Talan offer easily digestible vocals that are understated yet emotive. Straightforward chord structures characterize tunes like "World Spins Madly On" and "Be My Thrill," and the pair has shown a consistent knack for producing condensed and accessible modern folk ballads. Since breaking with Nettwerk earlier this year, Tannen and Talan have taken a break from the pop-culture spotlight to record new material, some of which might debut at this show.
