Place To Place

Pirate: Contemporary Art is one of the city's oldest co-ops, so some of the group's members, like Phil Bender, are established talents. But the group is constantly being infused with new blood, and what's currently on is the work of two of these emerging talents, Christine Buchsbaum and Jessica Kreutter.

In the main space is Christine Buchsbaum: Ghost, photos and an installation created specifically for this show. "Ghost concentrates on a lost sense of place," explains Buchsbaum. "Overall, this work explores the comfort of place and an uncertain future." But as serious as Buchsbaum is about the topic, she injects her pieces with humor.

In the Associates' space in the back, Jessica Kreutter: In the Interim features ceramic-based work that incorporates found materials, and it's concerned with place, or places, too. "I started building on this idea two years ago after looking at photos I had taken of abandoned spaces over the years," says Kreutter. "But instead of photos, I started to collect objects from these spaces. I want these objects to talk about both remembering and forgetting."

The two shows open tonight with a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. at Pirate, 3655 Navajo Street. For additional details, call 303-458-6058 or go to www.pirateartonline.org.
Fridays, 6-10 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 2. Continues through Sept. 18, 2011
