The Elevations Credit Union Buffalo Bicycle Classic in Boulder isn’t a race, but it does have a lot of winners: The ride is the single largest source of scholarships for the University of Colorado at Boulder’s College of Arts & Sciences, raising nearly $1.5 million since 2003, its organizers say.

And there are several ways to do it. Take it easy on a fourteen-mile “Little Buff” tour of Boulder’s bike paths ($65/adults, $35/kids), or go hard on the 35, 50, 70, or 100-mile routes ($95/ages twelve and up only). There’s also a Dean’s Team splurge option ($400) that comes with a special jersey and an invitation to the 2012 scholarship presentation in April.

“Here’s hoping you’ve got some training under your belt, no matter what distance you plan to ride,” says blogger Clay “Joe Rider” Evans, who adds that he’s been training for the century route. “Now, I realize the Buffalo Bicycle Classic is not a race, but, you see, I’m a man, and that means I must demonstrate my dominance.”

A continental breakfast is included starting at 6:30 a.m., in case you need some extra fuel to chase Evans down. Start times are staggered, beginning with the 100-mile ride at 7 a.m. and ending with the 14-miler at 9:30 a.m.
