Initially released as Tell Your Children, the film aimed to educate parents about the dangers and evils of cannabis use. But it became a popular midnight movie and stoner cult favorite after being auspiciously rediscovered in the 1970s by attorney Keith Stroup, founder of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), a group that advocates for the legalization of marijuana.
The musical, Flomberg explains, takes everything from the film and makes it over-the-top campy and silly. Were poking fun at the politics of the time, and also the over-sensitivity. There are lots of really fun, silly dance numbers and high-energy music. Its a roller coaster of hilarious musical fun.
