Critic's Choice: Osyluth performs September 17 at 1.21 Jiggawatts

Big suprise that a bunch of guys who might have been gamers formed a metal band and named themselves after one of the denizens of Hell in Dungeons & Dragons. Even bigger surprise that this foursome decided that "Pitsix" was less suitable than naming their project after a demon. Biggest surprise of all, the members of Osyluth — due at 1.21 Jiggawatts (1436 Tremont Place) this Saturday, September 17 — have a sense of humor and can laugh at themselves. On their debut EP, they had the good fortune to work with Toshi Kasai during the same spate of recording sessions that produced the most recent offerings from Action Friend and the Skivies, and what you get here is pretty legit technical death metal with distorted, feral vocals to match. And with song titles like "220/221" and "Involuntary Organ Donor," coupled with a no-bones attitude, Osyluth simultaneously makes you laugh and stand in awe of its musical prowess.
