Skate-deck art? It’s not just a passing fancy. In a time when more and more talented young artists blaze a trail from a graphic-arts base, decks represent the perfect synthesis of their efforts: There’s a functional basis, but also a sweet blast of imagination and free thought all tied up together on the limited expanse of a skateboard, which doesn’t necessarily have to hit the pavement and would actually look radical on your wall. And ultimately, skate-deck art is just plain sick.

More than 200 decks from artists both local and global will drill in that message with flair tonight at Bordo Bello, the annual deck auction and fundraiser hosted by AIGA Colorado to benefit both VSA Colorado/Access and AIGA programs.

“One of the cool things about it is that anyone can participate in the event, so you get a wide range of art in a single medium,” notes Bordo Bello organizer Elysia Syriac. “If you need artwork for an affordable price, this is a good place to start your art collection.” A small selection of the decks will be available for online bidding before the event; also up for grabs will be a flock of artist-decorated collectible Munny vinyl toys.

Bordo Bello begins at 6:30 p.m. at RedLine Gallery, 2350 Arapahoe Street; tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. For pre-bidding and information, go to www.bordobello.com.
