Great Beer Ahead

The Great American Beer Festival, which begins today, sold out long ago, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of other brew-infused events going on all over town where you can taste rare, delicious or unusual beers and meet the guys who make them.

There are more than a dozen events today alone. For instance, there will be representatives from Dogfish Head Brewing on hand at Euclid Hall, 1317 14th Street, at 12:30 p.m. today to talk about — and sip on — wood-aged beer like their Burton Baton. Or you can meet author and writer Christian DeBenedetti, who will sign copies of his new book, The Great American Ale Trail: The Craft Beer Lover’s Guide to the Best Watering Holes in the Nation, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Ale House at Amato’s, 2501 16th Street. And at 10 p.m., Full Sail Brewing head brewer John Harris will be at the Falling Rock Tap House, 1919 Blake Street, to help crack open a few rare kegs of his beer.

Still not done? Head over to Freshcraft, 1530 Blake Street, and the Blake Street Vault next door, for a Night of Light & Dark from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m., which will feature rare and specialty beers from the Alaskan, Stone and Odell breweries; Freshcraft will have the dark beers, while Blake Street Vault will have the lighter ones.
