After centuries of male domination, women finally fought their way into the art world in the nineteenth century. Today, women artists outnumber men, and feminist art has become a big topic of discussion. Its a different world, one thats highlighted in New Feminisms: Revolutions Per Minute, at the Emmanuel Gallery, located on the Tenth Street Mall on the Auraria campus.
The show features six artists Wynne Greenwood and K8 Hardy, Mark Newport, Damali Abrams, Christine Buchsbaum and Theresa Anderson and includes video, photography, paintings, installation and even hand-knitted superhero suits. The show is an exciting mix of media, delving into each artists unique feminist points of reference, says Emmanuel director Shannon Corrigan.
