What’s Cooking?

Before the Food Network decided to go the way of Bobby Flay, there was Alton Brown, the zany food nerd, cookbook author, Iron Chef America commentator and Twitter curmudgeon whose entertaining, intelligent and flawlessly researched cooking show, Good Eats, made the Food Network worth watching. But after six years of bringing his dancing sock puppet and the science of food into people’s living rooms, Brown finished taping his last episode of Good Eats last month; fortunately, the Cooking Channel will repeat all 249 episodes. Good Eats 3: The Later Years, Brown’s new cookbook, also recaps the 165th to 249th episodes — and tonight at 7:30 p.m., Brown will be signing that book at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street.

“The book is basically a snapshot of the show, with outtakes, sidebars, wacky photos and illustrations,” explains Claire Bamundo, director of publicity for Stewart, Tabori & Chang, a division of Abrams, the publisher of Brown’s book. “He’s really proud of this book, mainly because it’s just so him and he had a lot of creative freedom.” The book also comes with a sock puppet and stickers (“His idea,” says Bamundo). A ticket guarantees your place in line, and it’s free with the purchase of the cookbook, which is available at all three Tattered Cover locations. For more information, go to www.tatteredcover.com.
