Dress up your Dachshund in his finest hot-dog-imitating apparel; it's time for the twelfth annual Scream Scram race at Wash Park. Okay, so the run isnt just for masquerading pups: Kids, adults and seniors are also invited to participate in this evenings 5K run to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Athletes of all levels are welcome to sign up for the mini-marathon (with a special 100-meter jog for the little ones) starting at 6 p.m., or come early at 4:45 p.m. to walk the orange carpet in your costume.
The race is great for runners and families alike, and the costumes are worth seeing, says Boys & Girls Club marketing director Erin Kieft of the popular race. Awards will be given to the best individual, family and kid's Halloween getup, along with a special category just for pets in disguise. A trick or treat street of booths will be set up in the park for some candy collection after the race, and money raised from registration will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denvers programs, which serve more than 11,000 children a year.
Participants will receive a limited-edition Scream Scram T-shirt, with this years original design by illustrator Shaw Nielsen. Registration for the 5K run is $20 to $40, and can be completed by visiting www.screamscram.com or by calling 303-892-9200. Washington Park is at 701 South Franklin Street.
