In the past few years, the Denver Botanic Gardens has become a place to see major art shows, and this seasons main offering is dedicated to Allan Houser, the late Native American sculptor. In conjunction, DBG exhibition director Lisa Eldred has laid out a schedule that features the work of other American Indian artists, including the current offering, Air Lab, an exhibit of photos by Will Wilson.

This season, we sought important contemporary artists to complement Housers Native Roots | Modern Form exhibition, says Eldred. Wilsons focus on the environment makes him an effective catalyst for dialogue in our context. Wilsons photos zero in on the Western landscape and pollutions toxic assault on it. The DBG is also showing Wilsons Greenhouse Hogan in the Oak Grove. In this installation, Wilson has adapted the form of the Navajo hogan in order to facilitate survival in this case, through growing plants native to the region, such as corn and squash, Eldred says.
Air Lab continues through November 6; for more information, go to www.botanicgardens.org or call 720-865-3585.
