If you attended the Indie Wearable Craft style mart in April, then you’ll know what to expect for the October incarnation. “The concept of the style mart is that everybody’s merchandise is together, like in a store,” explains organizer Kirsten Coplans (who puts on the event with Jil Cappuccio and Christina Patzman). “That way, the people who are coming to see the show get the sense that if you love a pearl clothing sweater, you’re also going to love a Jil Cappuccio dress. We’re really trying to cultivate a look, so the intention of the show is to keep it small.”

For this iteration, there will be eleven designers: pearl, Cappuccio, Darling Ruth, Swear Jar, Becky’s Buttons & Things, Vital Industries, Phyrne Metals, Beans & Rice, Dandy Social Club, Lucky Me Beads and Mona Lucero. Last time around, every designer sold some work; the idea is to keep the style mart going twice a year to showcase seasonal collections.

“We’re trying to cross a demographic,” Coplans says. “We had some people who were pretty young, and we also had some customers who were women in their seventies, so it’s kind of nice to feel like we have something for everyone. We want to reach a demo-graphic of people who want to shop the independent clothing lines, but maybe they don’t know where to go.”
