Lines and Whispers

While the rest of Denver basked in the summer sunshine, MCA Denver has been shrouded over for the past few months as part of the exhibition Another Victory Over the Sun. But that show is now closed, and the panels and draperies have been pulled off the windows and skylights to provide the right setting for Victory’s rejoinder, Fred Sandback, which is dedicated to the minimalist conceptual work of this late New York artist.

More About

Employing yarn that’s often stretched from floor to ceiling in vertical stripes, Sandback’s pieces are barely there, something that allows the architecture of the David Adjaye-designed building to become a key element of the exhibit.

“Fred Sandback’s work is so friggin’ amazing, I don’t care if not a single visitor shows up, or no one writes about it, or if it’s the last exhibition I ever curate in my life,” says museum director Adam Lerner, who organized the show with curator Nora Burnett Abrams. “ I just want to be in this building filled entirely with his work.”
