The Blake will be the latest establishment to open at 1434 Blake Street in LoDo

The space at 1434 Blake Street that was home to the legendary City Spirit in the '90s has seen plenty of turnover in the past decade: from Andrew's Pub & Lounge to Lure Lounge to SportsBook to Pre-Game Sports Bar, which lasted for only a few months before closing last year. And come October 28, the address will have a new identity, as a neighborhood bar dubbed The Blake.

The Blake will soon open at 1434 Blake Street.

Jimmy Calanni, who ran Chez Cirque Dueling Pianos in the Landmark project before closing the place this summer, had planned to next open an Italian restaurant/dueling pianos bar in Greenwood Village — but instead he opted to take on the 7,000-square-foot LoDo venue. He'll put his dueling-pianos concept in the front section of the second level on weekends, and possibly Thursdays if there's a demand (another dueling-pianos spot, Wild Ivories, was located just a block away at 1400 Market Street, but that closed in August); he also might book local bands there on Thursdays. The back section of the second level will be devoted to a VIP bottle-service lounge.

While Calanni's son James, the Blake's general manager, says he doesn't want the place to become known as a sports bar, it will have five booths on the main level that each have their own flat-screen TVs and receivers. Customers can call ahead to rent one of these spots and then watch whatever game they prefer. There will also be a special booth in back where former Broncos running back Darius Walker will host a show on The Ticket radio called The Coolest Show on Earth.

And there are also plans to turn part of the basement, where DJ K-Nee hosted his popular So What! nights in the '90s, into a fifty-person private VIP room with its own TV, tabletop tap, bartender and server that can be used for birthday or bachelorette parties or wedding receptions.

Club scout: Cheers character Cliff Clavin lives on at Clavin's Bar & Grill, a new spot that just opened at 17904 Cottonwood Drive in Parker. While Clavin's will definitely emphasize sports, it also features karaoke on Tuesday nights and date night from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays, when you get a half-bottle of wine with the purchase of two entrees.
