Another Night of the Dead

George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead was the catalyst for the zombie explosion, and to honor its pedigree, the Bug Theatre and Paper Cat Films have re-created it for the last four years as a hybrid stage-and-film performance. Since the film is public domain, they've tweaked a few details for their purposes.

With the indoor scenes taking place on stage and the outdoor scenes on video, this version of Night of the Living Dead adds a unique perspective to the undead classic. That's partially because director Kris Hipps writes a new opening each year to keep it fresh, and this year the production will have several alternate endings as well. "The first scene is our take on what happened to the old lady Barbara finds at the beginning," says Hipps. "Then we'll have several alternate endings just to spice it up and make it more fun."

Night of the Living Dead kicks off tonight at the Bug, 3654 Navajo Street, and runs through October 29; admission is $15, but show up in a zombie costume and get in for $12. For more information, visit www.bugtheatre.info or call 303-477-9984.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Thu., Oct. 27, 8 p.m. Starts: Oct. 7. Continues through Oct. 29, 2011
