This year’s maze is designed to pay tribute to the work of Allan Houser; the current exhibit at the York Street gardens, Native Roots|Modern Form, is the seed from which the maze design was grown. “We thought it would be the perfect way to highlight the exhibit, to have the design cut in the corn maze that represents Native American style,” says DBG spokesman Will Jones.

To create the maze, the crew at Chatfield begins cutting corn stalks into a pattern when they’re about knee-high. When fall is over, the corn is harvested and used to feed livestock on the Chatfield Botanic Gardens land.

The maze will be open every Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., every Saturday from noon to 9 p.m., and every Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. through October 30; admission is $10 for adults, $8 for members, $5 for children and $4 for child members.
