Mountain Highs

The Colorado Mountain Club convened its first official meeting on April 26, 1912, was instrumental in winning federal designation for Rocky Mountain National Park just three years later, and is now celebrating a century of shaping mountain conservation, education and recreation in Colorado. Get a sneak preview of the 2012 centennial festivities tonight at 7 p.m. with the official release of 100 Years Up High: Colorado Mountains & Mountaineers, a new book from the Colorado Mountain Club Press.

“This book is a tribute to the mountains of Colorado themselves and to the mountaineers, climbers, hikers, skiers, snowboarders, artists, activists and conservationists who have been making the most of them throughout the Colorado Mountain Club’s 100-year history,” says CMC spokeswoman Sarah Gorecki. “It marks a great moment for us as we reflect on this important anniversary and set the stage for our next 100 years.”

A panel featuring the authors, researchers and photo editors responsible for the book, as well as a slide-show presentation culled from the 170 images included therein, will take place in the American Mountaineering Museum’s Foss Auditorium, 710 10th Street in Golden. Tickets are free; register at www.cmc.org/meettheauthors to reserve a seat.
Tue., Nov. 1, 7 p.m., 2011
