Foam On the Range

The brewing scene in Colorado Springs is hoppin’ — and hoppy — so that city is smart to host a fest dedicated to beers brewed in the state.

Today’s fifth annual All Colorado Beer Festival will bring together 35 breweries, some of them small ones that tend to get overlooked. “Take KB Kraft Beers, for example. They’re a new small brewer here in the Springs, but they make some interesting stuff,” says festival organizer Randy Dipner.

“Someone like that gets lost in the shuffle at the Great American Beer Festival. I don’t know about you, but when I go to GABF, I’m interested in trying beers I can’t get otherwise, so I don’t spend a lot of time in the Colorado section.

“This festival is a way to get those beers to the forefront,” he adds. The fest is also a fundraiser; this year, it will donate 100 percent of its proceeds to three charities: Theatreworks, the Empty Stocking Fund and Homefront Cares. Last year, organizers gave away $19,000 in donations.

The ACBF features two sessions, one from noon to 4:30 p.m. and the other from 5:30 to 10 p.m.; it takes place at the Freedom Financial Expo Center, 3650 North Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. The cost for either session is $30 ($25 with a military ID) and includes unlimited beer samples and live music. There’s also a VIP section for another $15.
