The theme of the 34th annual fest is Roll Out the Red Carpet, and more than 120 guests are scheduled to appear, including Like Crazy director Drake Doremus; country singer Chely Wright, who is the subject of the coming-out documentary Wish Me Away; and actress Adepero Oduye of Pariah. “This is the largest program we’ve ever produced — and perhaps the most eclectic,” says Brit Withey, the festival’s artistic director.
Other marquee films include: Lars von Trier’s Melancholia; the controversial, Steve McQueen-directed Shame, starring a very naked Michael Fassbender; We Need to Talk About Kevin, with Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly; Martha Marcy May Marlene, with Elizabeth Olsen; and David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method.
Screenings take place at six different venues around town through November 13; there will also be panel discussions, filmmaking workshops and soirees. Movies cost $10 to $35 each. For the full schedule and tickets, go to www.denverfilm.org/festival.
