Night Crawlers

The jewel in the crown of Denver Arts Week is Night at the Museums, when more than a dozen museums throughout the metro area throw open their doors so that visitors can check them out after dark for free. The big dogs — including the Denver Art Museum and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science — are part of the mix, but so are smaller ones, including the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decora-tive Art and the not-yet-officially-open Clyfford Still Museum.

This is the fifth year for the event, which is sponsored by Visit Denver in partnership with Arts & Venues Denver. “It’s inspired by similar tours in Paris and other European cities,” explains Visit Denver’s Jayne Buck, who launched the idea here in the Mile High City. “Our goal is to get people to be more aware of the cultural attractions in Denver and to get out and see what the city has to offer.”

Participating museums will open their doors from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight; most of them will be served by free shuttle buses that can be boarded at the DAM and other locations. For more information, go to www.denver.org/denverartsweek.
Sat., Nov. 5, 5-10 p.m., 2011
