Comedian Bryan Kellen met his wife at Wits End Comedy Club in Westminster seven years ago, when he was performing and she was a cocktail waitress. And ever since, he’s had plenty of material. “I’m married to a Latina, into a big family with a lot of kids, so my comedy focuses mostly on that,” he says. His comedy is very physical, Kellen explains: He uses the stage, his body, the audience — anything to accentuate that material.
Kellen’s style attracted the interest of George Lopez, who regularly uses him as a touring opener. But at tonight’s Comedy Works at Nissi’s Bistro, Kellen will be paired with local comic Andrew Overdahl.
Although Nissi’s, which is located in Lafayette, is very different from the regular Comedy Works venues, the bistro is perfect for comedy, according to Mark Raftery, director of operations for Comedy Works. “Nissi’s is a really great venue for comedy, and they’re far enough away where events don’t compete with what we’re doing downtown and at the Landmark,” he says. “It’s a great location because of the way the stage is set up in the corner of the room and everyone is right there in front of you. Sightlines and sound — everything is just perfect in that regard. It’s turned out to be a really good relationship.”
