Closet Case

You know the rule of the closet: If you haven't worn it in over a year, out it goes to make room for new favorites. But few people have the wherewithal to stick with the edict unless there's the promise of some kind of return. That's why Anna Newell Jones -- a local expert on frugality whose And Then She Saved blog is an inspiration to people yearning to be debt-free -- came up with the And Then She Saved Clothing Swap, which takes care of both emptying the closet and filling it back up without costing anyone a dime. Hosted from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Super Ordinary Gallery, 3126 Larimer Street, it's not only a dream come true for the poor-but-stylish, but also a chance to sip wine and nibble on cupcakes with like-minded women.

Here's the drill: Cull ten nice items from your closet -- Super Ordinary owner Tran Wills suggests better items "that you would give your sister or best friend after you've gotten tired of them" -- and bring them, along with a small rack if you have one, to the gallery. Put them out for all to see, and then peruse everything that all the other participants have put into the pool. If all goes right, you'll end up getting rid of your old stuff and leaving with ten new things that you love -- and even if you don't, you can still donate your castoffs to Safehouse Denver. Win-win.
