Make It To the Market

With the news that their state funding was cut by 67 percent this year, the nonprofit Denver Options reacted by getting crafty. The result is the Denver Options' Handmade Market, a benefit that the organization -- which supports people with developmentall disabilities -- came up with to try to make up that difference in funds.

More About

The market will feature a wide variety of vendors selling handmade gifts, all to benefit respite care for families of children with disabilities. "We've got kids who are medically fragile or have pretty severe behavior issues with autism and things like that, and it's literally impossible to go to the grocery store or to go to your own doctor's appointment," explains Denver Options' Jean Heath. "The respite funds are intended to go to parents so that they can hire somebody to take care of their child with a disability so that they can just go do the stuff the rest of us kind of take for granted."

Whether you're purchasing knitted goods, cupcakes or handmade jewelry from the 45 vendors, the market is sure to offer unique presents. Shop today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Anchor Center, 2550 Roslyn Street. For more information, visit www.denveroptions.org/handmademarket.
Sat., Nov. 19, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 2011
