Stuffing turkey and mashed potatoes in your face is an American tradition on Thanksgiving. But this year, you can also try something new by participating in an Eastern tradition: yoga. Whole Yoga is offering a special Thanksgiving morning class to unwind and get some light exercise before a busy day. "It's a time when people have a lot of family around and a big day ahead," says Whole Yoga teacher and owner Satya Larrea. "Why not do some yoga in the morning after they pop their turkey in the oven and just kind of get centered?"
Larrea teaches hatha yoga, which she describes as a basic sequence of poses that flow together and prepare the body for future poses in the class. Worried about leaving your snoopy cousin at home while you take some time out? Larrea says to bring everyone along: The class is meant for all skill levels, so even someone new to the practice will be able to keep up and follow along. "It seems that families are notorious for being challenging," she laughs. "On Thanksgiving Day, I hope that people get an opportunity to feel their heart and open it up and just kind of share a little bit of that with the people they're with."
