Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines: The Rocky Mountain Rod & Custom Show is back for its fifteenth year of celebrating all that's shiny, chromed-out and whitewalled. Today through Sunday, more than 500 vehicles from across the nation will be at the Colorado Convention Center, along with dozens of auto retailers who specialize in basic car parts, restoration and current tricked-out trends.

From fancy fire trucks to drop-tops, Model Ts to Volkswagen camper vans, the show offers up vehicles for both experienced and novice fans. "It's not just for the fifty-year-old male," jokes publicist Reggie Brasseux. Along with the gleaming vehicles, guests can watch a live automotive-art show each day of the event, when local artists will paint and draw homages to autos on the spot.

The main attraction, however, is Sunday's first-ever Creme de la Chrome, during which any car, truck or motorcycle at the show can compete for a chance at a $5,000 prize for being the cherriest of the bunch. The show begins at 9 a.m. at the convention center, 700 14th Street. Tickets are $15 ($5 for kids); discounts are available at O'Reilly Auto Parts stores.
