A Light in the Darks

If you're wondering what to do with your charity dollars this season, the Wynkoop Brewing Company has just the package: For $25 ($30 at the door), you can join the Parade of Darks this afternoon, sampling seventy-plus beers from breweries big and small, with the beery knowledge that 100 percent of your admission fee is going directly to Metro CareRing, a supermarket-style downtown Denver food pantry.

All of the beer will be donated by the breweries, with styles ranging from holiday seasonals and barley wines to sours, Belgians, stouts and porters. "If you want to get some of that holiday cheer, this is a convenient way to do it," says Wynkoop spokesman Marty Jones. The breweries include Colorado heavyweights like Avery, Odell and New Belgium, new brewers like Caution and Renegade, and big out-of-state names like Deschutes, Sam Adams and Firestone Walker. "All of the brewers are generous; they know that sometimes it is more important to eat than to drink beer," Jones adds.

The annual parade of beer, which takes its name from the venerable Parade of Lights, runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Wynkoop, 1634 18th Street. For tickets and information, go to www.wynkoop.com.
